The Beaulah-Dean wood kiln was the 2nd Canadian kiln building workshop I taught. This kiln belongs to Barbara Murphy at Crowsfoot Pottery in Ontario. This was another great workshop with a lot f the same folks from the Hog Barn workshop. Unlike the Hog Barn Baby, this kiln is a front stoker without any grates. It also has 3 damper chambers instead of 2. This allows for more precise temperature and atmospheric control throughout the kiln. It also allows the dampers to be placed lower and therefore easier to reach.

It was really nice to be able to return to Canada and work with this this great bunch of people. We seemed to have the routine down and the construction went off without a hitch. We didn't even have to work too many late nights! A big crowd showed up for the day of the firing and I did some throwing demonstrations. During the cool down day we took a road trip to Niagara Falls. It was a beautiful day with complete double rainbows in the mist of the falls.

Beaulah-Dean was named in honor of my little community back home (Buladean, NC). A little bit of the south has found a home north of the border.
