Details: Work should be glazed and ready to go when you arrive. We will wad the pots then load the kiln Friday, Nov 13. You may wish to spend the night here. You can tent up outside or sleep in the loft. So bring your camping gear. The studio has a full bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, wireless access, satellite TV. We will divide groups into shifts for stoking. The firing will start early Saturday morning. Size and duration of stoking shifts will be determined by how many people participate. Expect to stoke for at least 3 hours. Firing should be complete Saturday evening. The following Saturday, Nov 21 we will unload the kiln and have an informal discussion about the results. Afterwards we will all clean the kiln and kiln area. Then we'll cut and stack firing wood to replace what we burned. Unloading and clean up should take about 6 hours. Participants should bring warm clothes (no fleece during stoking shifts), leather gloves, sturdy shoes, eye protection, mask or respirator. Also bring snacks, meals and beverages. If your staying the night bring all your own camping gear. For the unloading, bring gloves, eye protection and mask, a bagged lunch and boxes/packing material to take your work home. |
