Back in the early 90's I was fortunate enough to have a studio at Cedar Creek Gallery near Durham, NC. I had just graduated from college and I needed a place to make pots. I met the owner, Sid Oakley, when I went down there to be a groomsman in his daughter's wedding. Sid invited me to move there and work. He rented me a studio and a small house next door. He also made sure the gallery bought enough pots from me to  cover my rent. Sadly, Sid passed away a few years ago. I considered Sid to be one of the most generous people I've ever known. He helped a lot of young potters get started.

In 2006 Sid's daughter Lisa, who now runs Cedar Creek, asked me to come back to build a new wood kiln. They wanted to revive their residency program and also make the kiln available for local potters to fire. Currently it is being fired regularly by a group from Claymakers as well as Tim Turner and Alan Bennett. Alan fired it to cone 10 in 7 hours one time. He says it always fires perfectly.
