Loading the kiln takes as much time and attention
as making the pots and firing the kiln.
Each piece must be placed on the shelf in the kiln as
tightly as possible, taking care that no two pieces touch or they will
fuse during the firing.

Throughout the kiln, these cone packs are placed at the
peepholes. Each cone bends
at a specific temperature. This
is the best way to monitor the internal temperature of the kiln.
Mark must stoke the fire every couple of minutes for a
span of 16-18 hours.

After a big stoke, flames and smoke roar out of
the chimney.
| The unloading takes a few hours. Pots must then be sanded and cleaned before they make it to
the gallery. Each firing is different.
During the unloading, it is amazing to discover how the fire and
ash have touched each pot. |
